Sometimes two or all three methods are used. Most often lower velocity slugs for handguns or blackpowder firearms are cast by pouring molten lead or alloy into a mould. WebHe cast these rough blanks, which he then later fed into his swagging dies. The dies squeezed the cast blank into the bullet head. The dies had a "weep hole" which squeezed out the excess lead as a thread of lead (which went back into the lead casting pot). The BIGGEST issue with swagged slugs is that you MUST have a parallel sided bullet.
